Basic Information about
Deep Sleep Bedwetting
and our successful correction program
Approximately 15-20% of school age children between the ages of
four and sixteen are dealing with bedwetting. And approximately 5% of
these children will grow up into adulthood still dealing with the
problem. Every week we place teens and adults on our program who have
been told that they will outgrow this. Knowing that some do grow into adulthood with this problem, SDRC
is making an effort to educate and help those parents who have
children with this problem, so that the problem can be corrected as
early as possible. We also offer help to adults and are very
successful in correcting the problem even though they have had the
problem many years.
The reason for the success of our program is that we treat this
problem for what it really is: a SLEEP DISORDER. The enuretic sleeps
so soundly or deeply that they simply cannot wake up in response to
signals from their bladder.
Of course, the extra laundry and the
expense of pull-ups is a real burden, but the wet bed is
just part of the problem. When a child or adult suffers from
bedwetting there can be a low self-image or self-esteem. Going to
camp or staying over with friends can be a real problem because they
do not want other people to find out they wet the bed. The bedwetter
is very reluctant to do many of the things kids normally like to do.
Sleeping incorrectly can also cause the child or adult to not
receive the full benefits from Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep. This
may cause a shortened attention span, restlessness and excessive
daydreaming, and it may interfere with schoolwork and other daytime
activities.
Correcting this problem by treating
the deep sleep provides many benefits. The dry bed definitely is
reward enough, but there are often many more very positive results.
When the bedwetting is controlled, self-esteem improves and many
daytime symptoms may get better or disappear altogether.
